Day 1: Arrival in Madeira
We’ll pick you up directly at the airport and take you to Machico, where you’ll have the chance to relax by the sandy beach and take in the refreshing Atlantic breeze. Upon arrival, you’ll be warmly welcomed with a drink, and your guide will introduce themselves, providing you with all the details about your exciting trekking week ahead. It’s the perfect start to an unforgettable adventure!
Day 2: The first stage from the Eastern Cape tip of Madeira to the Torch Mountain
The first day is reserved for your arrival. After settling in, we embark on the hike through Ponta de São Lourenço, a unique and barren landscape filled with rare, endemic plants. The striking contrast of tuff and basalt rocks defines the panoramic views. The highlight of today’s trek is reaching Pico do Facho, offering spectacular views of the surrounding area.

Day 3: Madeira hike along the winegrowers’ route
Today’s hike takes us along the scenic Levada Marocos and then follows an old coastal path once used by winegrowers to transport their goods. This trail requires sure-footedness, but the reward is well worth it. On clear days, you’ll be treated to phenomenal views, extending all the way to the island of Porto Santo.

Day 4: Volcanic Crater, Waterfall, and Enchanted Forest Park
Today’s adventure begins at Ilha as we trek along secluded paths through deep gorges, tunnels, and the lush Madeiran jungle. We ascend toward Caldeirão Verde (Green Cauldron), a verdant paradise, and end our journey in the Queimadas Natural Park. This area, shaped by an ancient volcano, is home to a stunning waterfall that plunges nearly 100 meters into the valley below. The central massif and laurel forest are part of the EU Natura 2000 protected area, offering a sanctuary for century-old heather and rare wildlife. Keep your ears open for the song of Madeira’s smallest songbird and, with a bit of luck, you may catch a glimpse of the elusive silver-necked dove soaring over the deep valleys.

This challenging, alpine-style mountain route is one of the most spectacular on Madeira, offering breathtaking views of both the north and south coasts of the island.

Day 6: Breathtaking Views on the Old Royal Route
Today’s hike follows an ancient connecting path at the base of Madeira’s highest peaks, crossing through the majestic central mountains. With each curve, the landscape shifts, offering new and stunning perspectives. As we ascend and descend, we are continuously amazed by the views. We’ll gaze down at the Encumeada Pass, pass by Pico Grande, and, at the next lookout point, catch sight of our destination for the day—the beautiful Nonnental (Valley of the Nuns). Along the way, we’ll encounter Madeira’s iconic flora, including Madeira mahogany and stink laurel, while the charming chaffinches keep us company.
