From the hotel in Paul do Mar it goes back along the waterfront and then up the serpentine road until you see the Ponta del Pago lighthouse in the distance as a small white dot. It is worth stopping every now and then and looking backwards at the serpentine road and the sea or looking at the Miradouros up to the lighthouse. It is the highest lighthouse in Portugal, and since 1922 it has stood 312 m above sea level at the westernmost tip of Madeira. A stop in the teahouse right next to the lighthouse or a little further in the O Forno restaurant (here you should also charge the battery) is one of them. We continue to Achada da Cruz, where you can take the cable car down to Fajã da Achadas da Cruz. Stroll through the fajã and along the sea. After the ascent, after a refreshment in the small bar next to the cable car with homemade cakes, you only go downhill to Porto Moniz.
